Thrill the World Eugene Global Dance took place on October 28th, 2017. This annual event brings the community together while raising money for worthy causes.
Amazon Park Community Center was the home of this year’s annual Thrill the World Eugene Global Dance. Thrill the World is an annual international attempt to break the world record for the Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance while raising money for charity. In Eugene, over 200 dancers in Zombie costumes perform Michael Jackson’s Thriller Dance each year to fundraise for ShelterCare of Eugene.Robin Norris, a local resident of Eugene, is a veteran of this event which is now in its 6th year of dancing and fundraising. Front and center, she shows how Thrill the World Eugene has raised over $15,000 in the past few years for programs that help people in crisis keep, recover and stabilize their housing and lives. Mid-Thriller dance, the flash mob of all ages ranging from grandparents to grandkids show off their various abilities. No dance experience is required, bringing a wide variety of people in Lane County together to practice, have fun, and raise money for ShelterCare Eugene. The I ShelterCare about Homelessness campaign helps restore stability for vulnerable community members.Setting up the tents on the grass behind the parking lot where the performance took place, Robin Norris decorates with caution tape and zombie heads to enhance the spookiness of the Thriller Dance event. Multiple tents were set up for sign-ins, donations, announcements, and music.Robin Norris and Anthony Baronti, with Norris’ daughter closely behind her, celebrate post-Thriller dance. Working hard on preparing for this event for close to 2 months, they are elated as the flash mob was a success. This being one of their many events throughout the week, they quickly plan to migrate to the UO Ducks football game to perform at half-time!
