I thought is was very interesting and correct how Xuanren described values as the difference between humans and animals because I never thought of it that way. Having values allows us to make decisions that are not just based on instinct.

I do question when Xuanren said, “everyone need to find our own personal values as soon as possible” because I think that values are ever changing. Depending on what environment you surround yourself with, your values may change as you experience new things and learn from people as you grow. I think limiting yourself to a value based on ideas from when you were younger can really limit how you can grow as a person.

I did like the question posed at the end was very thought provoking, which was “how can we evaluate the personal value? In other words, are there good or bad personal values?” I agree with the answer that there is no universal way to judge peoples values.
