Science Club for High School Students

High School Students: You’re invited to Science Club Zoom meetings with UO Scientists

Do you like Chemistry, Biology, Math and Physics? Are you curious about how molecular assemblies of proteins and nucleic acids, which we sometimes call “macromolecular machines,” work to drive the copying of DNA, RNA and proteins?

Join our Science Club Zoom meetings with working scientists at the University of Oregon!

The Molecular Biology and Biophysics Science Club will hold monthly one-hour Zoom meetings to discuss current scientific topics and ongoing research. Topics will be announced in advance and presented by experts in the field, and at a level that is accessible to the science club participants. Specific media and background materials will be developed to supplement the meetings, which will be structured to contain a 15-minute introductory session followed by a 30-minute presentation and a 15-minute question/answer period. Benefits include:

  • Connect and interact with professors, graduate students and undergraduates working in molecular biology, biophysics, optics and related areas.

  • See first-hand how scientists create new knowledge.

  • Learn about current topics and research in molecular biology and biophysics.

  • Get help developing your ideas for science fair projects.

  • Supplement your ideas for pursuing a college degree.

We welcome and encourage the participation of individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups. Our first meeting will be held on October 15, 2020 at 4:00 pm.
