Presentation

Presentation is the one that I believe is the most important communication tool for everybody in the business, because it contains many aspects of interpersonal, organization, and design skills. And those skills must be connected as whole to give the best effect to the audience. failing to do so will result a ineffective communication since we are trying to change one’s believe and convincing them to give up what they already have in mind and let them believe our offering is better than anybody else. Before, I took this class, I did not know what would be an effective presentation at all. I thought as long as we can provide enough facts like what we did in the proposal, people will be convinced! It doss not have to be carefully designed for the PPT, and it does not matter how I tell the data. I was completely wrong.

First Presentation

After we turned in pages of our first proposal, we need to present our ideas to the committees. Because Ron have done a fantastic job to tell us the importance of presentation, we ended up obtained a decent score more than what we had expected. We have used enough data with efficient animation effect. Our introduction was directly hooked the audience by telling a story. And three of us on the stage had enough confidence. However, after watching our video tape on how we have actually presented, we’ve shocked. It was a disaster just by looking three of us on the stage, with many unnecessary movements. My voice was pitifully low that I have to turn my computer volume load enough to hear clearly what I was talking. In addition, I did not have enough eye contact with the audience, because I memorized the whole thing that I was going to say. Finally, our PPT slides had many clip arts with all different kinds of colors that gave audiences dizzy feeling. Our background on the PPT was not interesting at all, and there are too much data on the slides.

Final Presentation

This time, I have learned so much from watching my own video tape, and the lecture from Ron. I was able to use many picture as the background, and just tell a story about our data instead of putting all the data into the slides. The wording for our sentences were simplified with less words but more effective. Most importantly, this time, I was required to speak more than 3 minutes and I couldn’t memorize them all. I encouraged myself to use passion to speak to the audience instead of memorizing the words. I have learned from the class that audiences tend to have a curve when listening our presentation. They mostly can concentrate only on the introduction and the conclusion during the presentation. So I had to make sure that my introduction and road map give audiences enough information about our ideas.
