UO Tuba Sextet Reaches Out to Youth Musicians in California

Michael Grose, associate professor of tuba and euphonium and the UO Tuba Sextet will be conducting a workshop in Palm Desert, CA later this month. The clinic is mainly for the youth musicians of Heatwave Jazz and Show Band, though it is open to any music students interested in attending. Grose and his students will work with the youth on breathing and other performance techniques. The weekend will culminate in a public joint concert at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 20 in the Heatwave Band-room.

Heatwave formed in 2007 as the Boys & Girls Club Jazz Band, and later evolved into the Heatwave Jazz & Show Band. The group is comprised of youth musicians and has been key to building other programs to round out The Music Program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley. The band’s repertoire includes everything from Glen Miller to Adele.

The workshop will be held during the day on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Heatwave Band-room in Palm Desert. More information: Audrey Shuman 760-406-2514.
