Lane County is home to over 350,000 people. With thousands of families living in poverty, one of the biggest struggles in Eugene is food insecurity. There is such a large demand for food, some of the organizations that support those in need are struggling. Food for Lane County is a food bank in Eugene that supports these smaller food pantries and organizations. They receive donations from community members and then distribute those donations to organizations who need them like The Dining Room or local churches. Even though Lane County has dozens of food pantries to help diminish the problem of food insecurity, they still have a long way to go. Fixing a problem like food insecurity can only be overcome by a community coming together to support their neighbors in the fight against food insecurity. Lane County has taken the steps to slowly decrease the large population who are food insecure but an issue this large needs time and donations.
