Annual Liszt Birthday celebration organized by the Oregon Chapter of the American Liszt Society. In the program: all-Liszt program of songs, solo transcriptions, and dances, in collaboration with the voice area and the dance department

Music is more than just a series of notes; it’s a tapestry of emotions, thought, drama, beauty and life itself. In this presentation pianist / composer Cyrus von Hochstetter explores the connection between music, sound and meaning. How does music tell its story, and how can we better share this story with our audiences and students? In an exploration of these themes, we will look for the stories behind the notes and aim to re-examine the familiar.

Sunday, November 19, 3pm, Berwick Hall: BRIAN HSU performing Années de pélerinage: Suisse
Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage was written between 1837 and 1877 for solo piano. Its three books are considered a summation of his compositional style. In this concert, Brian Hsu will perform Book I, subtitled “Suisse.” Book I contains pieces inspired by paintings, sculptures, and literature Liszt encountered during travels in the 1830s.
