For the self assessment portion, my highest scored area was “Enabling others to act.”  I also scored very highly on “Encouraging the heart.”  This tells me that I’m good at working with others people and giving them feedback on their work.  Even though I scored well on these areas, I still feel like I need to do a better job of communicating my ideas with the group and make sure I’m not staying silent.  I scored low on “challenging the process,” meaning that even though I do a good job of giving others feedback,  I still need to work on pushing others to do work harder or speaking out to make sure the group and project are headed in the right direction.

Action Plans:

A) Challenge the Process

1.  Right now I definitely do not do a good enough job of challenging the process.  I struggle to take initiative and get conversation started because I don’t want my ideas to get shot down.  I also don’t like confrontation so if I disagree with an idea someone presents I wont say anything to avoid conflict. I don’t take enough risks when coming up with or presenting my own ideas.  At the end of this project I don’t want to feel like I missed out on any opportunities to take the project in a better direction.  This means whenever I have an idea or a disagreement I have to be confident and speak my mind on the issue.  It will be important for me to make sure I don’t overdo it and come off as too abrasive.

B) Relationship Management

1.  I chose relationship management as an area for me to work on because it ties in well with Challenging the process.  Making sure I can build a good relationship with my teammates is important if we want to have a successful project.  In a lot of group projects in the past I have taken a passive role and done whatever work the others allocated to me and didn’t input as much as I could have.  For this project I want my teammates to be able to look at me as a leader and hold a more active role in the group.
