I really enjoyed watching this film and I found the nationality aspect so interesting because I was watching various cultures interacting with eachother and I was learning how these cultures interact with the queer community and how the queer community applies to their own life. For example, Sasha believed that he wasn’t queer because he was the one giving rather than receiving when he would sleep with men. It’s also interesting because his friends were doing the same thing but no one acknowledged that they’re a part of the queer community. This film falls under the new wave of New Queer Cinema, but it’s late in the game so it has different styles and different ways of creating queer stories. This film touches on documentary styles and narrative style at the same time. I find this fascinating because it doesn’t feel like its documentary. The actor who plays Sasha, Stathis Papadopoulos, looks at the camera when he is answering the interview questions but I don’t feel disconnected to the narrative aspect of the film. I really enjoyed this aspect especially because it never pulled me away. I felt as if I was asking those questions and he was talking to me. I felt more in the film than as an audience member.
This film plays around with body and using It. Sasha is aware of his sexual desire that he gives off and he uses it to his advantage. He constantly flirts and viewers can see this through his body language. The director, Constantine Giannaris, found Stathis Papadopoulos at a local club dancing. Constantine uses non-actors in this film and I believe that It adds trueness and realism to it. This is true about a lot of films but because this film is shot dodcumenaty style and narratively it just shows how good Constantine is good at directing the cast. But part of me believes that the actors didn’t have to act that much because aspects of the story and parts of the film that illustrate their culture might be true to them in their personal life.
