hello class !

Hello everyone, my name is Maggie! I’m a junior and I am majoring in linguistics and will probably major in Japanese as well just due to the classes I’ve taken, with a minor in CIT.

I’m taking this class because I love linguistics (hence the major) and I also have been studying Japanese for quite some time, so it just felt like the natural thing to do to take a linguistics course focusing on a language I love, especially if I end up majoring in Japanese as well. I started studying Japanese among other languages when I was young because I have always loved learning languages, but Japanese stuck out among those as the one I was really interested in. The grammar is so starkly different from English and the Romance language, and the morphology—particularly on the verbal front—has always been very fascinating to me. I have also always been really obsessed with a game called Ōkami which is set in classical Japan and centered around Japanese mythology, and on top of that I have always loved Ghibli films, so I made it my life’s mission to understand them without subtitles.

My hobbies are playing games (World of Warcraft is a constant in my life), drawing, and making tea blends. My favourite anime is Samurai Champloo and I re-watch it at least two times a year, and my favourite games (besides WoW) are the aforementioned Ōkami, Skyrim, and Katana Zero.

よろしくお願いします!
