The strength of my Emotional Intelligence is “Self-Management”. Through Peer Evaluations Report, I received many feedback said that I am always prepared for meetings and did whatever task was assigned to me. It represents my trustworthiness in the team, which means I have a strong ability to manage and honor my responsibilities.
The weakness of my Emotional Intelligence, however, is “Relationship Management”. That is why I set a goal to overcome this weakness in “Leadership Development Plan”. I felt there is a wall between native speakers and me since English is not my primary language. Also, I am used to speak out only when I was asked to do so in a team. Hence, I tried to be more initiative person while maintaining good relationships with others.
Even though I started working on my plan from the beginning of the class, at the midterm feedback, I received comments from every teammate said that I was too quiet during the discussion. After receiving this feedback, I took it into consideration seriously, and then I started working hard on changing my behavior to be more vocal during the discussion to agree/disagree with others. For example, since I felt it was hard to cut into the conversation, I raised my hand when I wanted to share my opinion so that other teammates can know that I have something to say. This action successfully made me have more chance to speak out my ideas. Besides that I accept this feedback, I also did self-reflection every week when I post weekly blogs. By doing so, I could keep track on my process, and take a step-by-step action to reach my goals.
