Through this class, I believe I have skill to present my own ideas effectively and persuasively especially in written formats.
For example, we had some chances to write business memos (writing assignments) during the class. For the first time, I did very poor so that I got 0 out of 10. Then I went to see teaching assistants to ask for their helps to revise my writing. Since I went to see three different teaching assistants, and all of them said my revised paper looks good, I personally felt that I improved from the first draft on the second draft. However, the score I got for the second draft was lower than I expected. According to the feedback from the professor, I didn’t do well on showing enough evidence to persuade audiences. To make much use of this feedback, I paid more attention to write persuasively and effectively on my writing assignment #2. I was careful to define objectives clearly, and to articulate a solution effectively. I made a significant improvement on this writing assignment #2 so that I got 49 out of 50 lastly.
However, I am not good at present own ideas perfectly in oral format. Since English is not my primary language, it is difficult for me to speak extemporaneously on the presentation. For the first presentation, I prepared a script and memorized it completely. But I know it is not good for practicing presentation, I decided not to depend too much on script for the final presentation. At the end, although I prepared a script for the final presentation, I didn’t speak exact same as the script, and I changed some words spontaneously on the real presentation. By doing so, I could spontaneously speak ideas that I want to say by following the basic outline, and also could speak to my audiences without looking note cards. I believe that speaking to audiences without looking note cards can present ideas more persuasively and efficiently.
