Cover: I chose the photograph titled “Katz Cadi Sp” because, as planned, the framing of the image works well as a cover while leaving room for postal information and gives readers a clue of what the featured story will be about as well. As I mentioned before, the photograph highlights Marc Katz’s bald head, which is central to the introduction of the piece and his character as described in the article. The simple design is similar to that of “New York Magazine,” which I used as a basis for the cover of “Gateway III Magazine” because the picture I chose is visually stimulating and communicative enough that too many other elements would be distracting and take away from the elegance of the cover. I got rid of the top bar because it was visually distracting and not crucial to the functionality of the design. I chose the font Jazz LET Plain:1.0 because it is interesting enough to be a powerful brand image while remaining legible for use in the cover story description, below. I chose to eliminate the extra article because I didn’t want the cover to appear too cluttered; I wanted to give the reader enough space to enjoy the photo. The contrast between the sideways picture and the straight text is busy enough on the viewer’s eyes.
