“Street Dog”

By: Jared Clarke

In downtown Eugene,  I met with Dani Ford and her dog Cooper to discuss the effect Ordinance #20577 has on them.

Establishing Shot: Dani Ford and her dog Cooper sit with her friends on the crowded corner of 13th and Olive next to the Eugene Station. Eugene recently passed an Ordinance that bans dogs downtown. Homeless however do not have a place to leave their pets as they travel downtown.

Close-Up Shot: Cooper is a “street dog” that shares a bond with his owner, Dani. Many homeless use dogs as forms of protection, service, and emotional support.

Action Shot: Cooper provides protection and warmth for Dani. Dani provides food and water for Cooper. They help each other survive.

Detail Shot: Dani serves Cooper food in his own bowl to keep from eating off the streets. Cooper picks out the peas and spits them on the ground. Dani yells, “Cooper eat your peas!”

Interaction Shot: Dani and Cooper meet her friend Andrew Lawrence and his dog Tramp. Both are friendly dogs that never leave their owners side (or lap). Cooper is not a fan of bikes though, He barks at them if they pass too close. Tramp enjoys sitting and looking at the camera.
