Posters and Short Oral Paper Presentations

The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon is delighted to be hosting the 26th annual Joint Campus Conference (JCC). We look forward to organizing another stimulating event.

The JCC has traditionally been a forum for environmental scholars from the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and Portland State University to share their research and writing. To encourage interaction, dialogue, and engagement among participants, we are offering the opportunity for students to choose one of two presentation formats, as follows.

  • Posters are ideal for presenting work that can be communicated effectively by the use of visuals. Posters will be displayed at the poster sessions and should be accompanied by a brief oral presentation. Four poster prizes will be awarded at the end of the conference. The poster print size for the symposium is 42” x 36” landscape or 36” x 42” portrait orientation.
  • Paper presentations are 10 minutes each (oral presentations), followed by five minutes for questions and discussion.

Students should submit a 300-word abstract (maximum) and indicate whether they prefer a paper presentation or a poster. Due to limited time slots, some students may be offered to submit a poster instead of an oral presentation. Participants are strongly encouraged to make their presentations and posters accessible. Please consider using sans-serif typefaces, displaying high-contrast images, and providing access copies with an outline for presentations. Submit abstracts HERE. Submissions must be received by 5 pm on May 1, 2023.

The University of Oregon has a long tradition of environmental research and activism. The Environmental Studies Program and the affiliated campus programs and departments that participate in environmental research are national and international leaders in the environmental humanities, activist-oriented environmental justice, and interdisciplinary research. Drawing upon the strengths of environmental scholarship at the University of Oregon, the Joint Campus Conference 2023 aims to showcase the environmental humanities, environmental justice, and interdisciplinarity. Our hope is that these options will encourage and enable more graduate students to participate and present their work, as well as offer more opportunities for cross-campus dialogue and engagement within the Environmental Studies, Sciences, and Management communities.
