Chaos Theory by Jack McCallum
Jack McCallum’s feature story in this weeks Sports Illustrated deal with this season struggles of the Los ANgeles Lakers. McCallum however, doesn’t go at the assignment by just saying what the problems have been. He plays off the Los Angeles theme and gives each problem (player or coach) that the team has a section named after a hollywood movie. At the beginning of the piece the author asks the question “can they rewrite the script?” Once again playing on the hollywood theme of the town that the team plays in. While, McCallum uses the movie titles to break the piece up, he doesn’t get cute with his analysis of the situation, giving solid chronology of the events of the season and good quotes from people around the situation to further illuminate each issue. McCallum wraps up the piece by stating how the season can be salvaged before a solid quote from star player Kobe Bryant and a well written final graf that once agains plays on the movie industry, “It’s helpful when your main man carries around a Silver Linings Playbook. But if the Lakers don’t start righting their ship immediately following the All-Star break, another movie comes to mind. Anyone remember the end of Thelma & Louise?”

I can’t access the story, but good comments. As far as story organization goes, it comes down to what works.
