Along the Interstate: Photo Essay #3

October 21, 2013 · No Comments · Uncategorized

This weekend I took a trip along I-84 to Baker City, Oregon for an emotional visit with family. At the end of the day, we took the six hour ride back home, and I was struck by the beauty, serenity and variation along the interstate.

I-84 stretches along three states: Oregon, Idaho and Utah. However, 65 miles-per-hour, the lowest speed limit on the route,  is only required in the state of Oregon.

The East side of I-84 features the Wallowa Mountain range, which expands 40 miles. This range is commonly referred to as the “Alps” of Oregon.

As the sun sets in Baker County, the silhouettes of lone houses haunt the hills. The estates along I-84 in this region were few and far between  each house offered a break in the endless hills of the county during the drive.

Although the setting sun is not visible nearly 439 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the taillights along I-84 evoke a reminiscent feeling reflecting what Oregonians see on the coast.

As dusk falls, orange remnants of the falling sun kiss the rolling hills in the distance as the midnight blue sky creeps in to settle for the night. Sunset occurred around 6:30 p.m. but will become earlier as the season goes on.
