Capodimonte Museum, Naples

For our one full day in Naples, Charlie and I thought we would go to an archeological museum out of town, but the taxi driver called the museum and found out that we needed a reservation … and they were full for the day. So he suggested we try a different museum, and we wound up at the Museo di Capodimonte on top of a hill on the north side of town. The museum is in a palace that was built starting in 1738 for King Charles of Bourbon, and it has been used as a home for great works of art since then. You can look it up in wikipedia to learn more about this palace. Today it is a gorgeous museum with many historical art treasures. I include photos of a few favorites below: knowledgable art connoisseurs will appreciate these gems!

Part of Adorazione del bambino, by Jacob Cornelisz (1512)
Departure of Charles III from Naples, 1734, seen from the Harbor, by Antonio Joli (1759)
Departure of Charles of Bourbon for Spain, seen from the Sea, by Antonio Joli (1759)
Paesaggio con tempesta di mare, by Henry met de Bles (1531)
Flagellation of Christ, by Caravaggio (1607)
Vesuvius, by Andy Warhol (1985). Wow!
