I’m a student pursuing public relations at the University of Oregon.
I currently have a public relations internship with the Eugene YMCA, where I promote the organization’s athletic programs and events as well as manage their social media. This past summer I worked at the Prefontaine Classic Race event where I administered interviewers and race participants in a media tent. Along with event planning, I’ve written several promotional pieces and press releases for the Y. I recently created an ad showing their support for a particular bond measure campaign encouraging renovation of Eugene’s schools, which appeared in the local community newspaper, The Eugene Weekly.
I’ve learned much of my communication and professional skills from taking a series of public relations classes this previous summer. While dealing with strict deadlines and often times difficult clients, I learned how to manage time effectively and respond to various demands. Throughout the rest of my stay at the University of Oregon, I plan to seek out other internship opportunities and acquire all the skills necessary for a public relations job after I graduate.
