As someone who upkeeps a Twitter account for the local, Eugene YMCA, I highly encourage as much media communication between businesses and its consumers as possible. With an increase in technology and online communication, its crucial businesses become involved and generate an online presence.

For instance, UPS utilizes Twitter to support other UPS departments, retweet reporters, and display the company’s current progress.

Any online communication between a business and its consumers is highly beneficial to the company’s success. This is because consumers are more trusting and loyal to businesses when they are able to see the company in action. Consumers also appreciate when companies are open-minded towards critical feedback and take the time to respond to consumer suggestions. This ensures better communication and dependence on the company from its consumers.
When I tweet for the YMCA, the community usually responds positively, giving critical feedback. It is also helpful because it ensures immediate communication between the Y and members. I can then see what members are saying about a particular event and/or who the presumable attendants will be. I feel like engaging with members puts a face on the organization(YMCA) and makes them seem more personable.
