This module provides a simple introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In the module, you will explore the definition of autism and where autism comes from. Finally, you will explore seven symptoms or common challenges for people with autism.
You will learn to:
- Provide a clear definition of autism.
- Describe three reasons why children with autism may have difficulty communicating and interacting with other children and adults.
- Describe three examples of sensory challenges that children with autism can have in school.
- Provide a definition of a special interest area and explain how teachers can use special interests to help students with autism do their schoolwork.
- Explain four types of health problems that children with autism may have.
Pre-test
First, we are going to do a test to see how much you know about the topics in this Module. We will do the test at the beginning of the module to see what you already know, and at the end of the module to see what new information you have learned. This helps us to measure how successful this module is in training you.
