When picking prenatal support, expecting mothers have the option of selecting from a wide range of doulas who provide varying services. While most offer prenatal support, some specialize in post partum assistance, and some can offer massage therapy or prenatal yoga training in the months leading up to labor. Prenatal yoga and massage therapy have been found to be a beneficial option during pregnancy since they prepare the body for birth and provide relief for ongoing pain.

Charnel Mulligan Park is a 1 acre recreational area on 17th and Charnelton, dedicated to the Eugene pioneer. The park features a playground for children, a half-court, sand and water play, as well as an open area for sports and fitness.
First-time mom, Arianna Martinez(23), is 5 months pregnant and participating in a private session of prenatal yoga, something she has done every week since entering her second trimester. She is set in the cat/cow pose, a stretch geared to stretch the spine, as well as relieve pressure from the back by stretching inwards and away from the baby bump.
Abby Hyland(20) is an education major at the University of Oregon and an aspiring doula. She has been chosen by Arianna to assist with prenatal support and exercise, as well as help create a birth plan. Set in the Warrior 3 pose, this position stretches and strengthens the entire back, and relieves stress put on the lower back by the baby.
Arianna’s interest in the benefits of prenatal yoga began when she began her pregnancy research. Prenatal yoga is recommended to begin during the second trimester, as it strengthens the body during the changing period leading up to labor. It also offers expecting mothers like Arianna with an outlet to take away the emotional and physical stress of pregnancy.
In February, Abby will participate in her first birth experience, providing emotional and physical support for Ariana during her labor process. The two are practicing breathing and hip stretch techniques in the park to prepare for labor, as well as go over their birth plan.
