- Correctly identify the primary thesis of “Computer Graphics: Effects of Origins”
“It is a premise of this paper that old cultural patterns do not die. They may fade or become more evident; that is, they may be deemphasized or emphasized,” (Jones 21).
- Identify one of the three historical examples Jones provides as an illustration of her thesis.
Example: Mercedes Benz Corporation.
“This perspective is analogous to early market predictions of the Mercedes Benz Corporation, which limited the number of potential automobile sales to the very low number of trained chauffeurs then available,” (Jones 21).
- Provide a compelling and accurate illustration of Jones’ thesis at work in today’s culture.
This might seem like a very surface level response to this question but it is something that has come up quite a bit in the media over the last few years and I picked it specifically because part of Jones’ thesis that I found very interesting was the wording: cultural patterns. Jones could have said cultural norms but instead used the word patterns, implying that this would reappear in the future. My example is boy bands. Two of the most well-known boy bands, ‘N Sync and Backstreet Boys both debuted in the late 1990s and rose to fame in the few years to come before their fame started to go back down hill. The same can be said for newcomers One Direction, The world’s biggest boy band moved 387,000 copies of Four in the week ending Nov. 23, according to Nielsen SoundScan…it’s a notable 29 percent drop from the first-week sales for their previous album,” (Lynch). Their time in the spotlight seems to be fading. I think that this illustrates Jones’ thesis today because it shows an older cultural patter than faded and then, more recently started to become emphasized to the next generation.
- Use of alternate sources to support statements and conclusions.
I used a recent article from Billboard Magazine to support my example in the question above, including the photos.
