CREATIVE SPIRITUALITY REFLECTION

1.How do you define “spirituality”?

In my opinion, spirituality is not only outer appearances and the five senses, but also the experiences from a person. For instance, when people see a blue car, they will definitely say that is a blue. However, when we draw a circle on a paper, and let a child and an adult say what is it. I guess the child would say moon, sun, plate and etc. In short, there will be a thousand different answers for that. On the other side, the answer from that adult might be just “a circle”. For me, spirituality encourages me to explore something that I don’t know. Furthermore, it also helps me a challenge something I am not able to do normally. For example, during the midterm week, I have to write two essays and review two of my courses. Normally, this is an impossible mission for me. But in this situation, during the midterm week, my spirituality tells me that I have to complete these jobs. Then, something (I don’t know how to explain) just push me to move forward. And at last, I always complete these “missions” perfectly.

2.Does spirituality differ from religion?

My answer is yes. Although I am not a believer of any religion, I know that religion is a strong power for human beings. Personally speaking, there are only two things could restrain human’s behaviors, the first one is law, and the second one is religion. From the definition, Religion is an institution established by man for various reasons like shared values, shared rituals, and mutual support. I guess the main idea is that people have a same kind of spirituality would be in a group. And we call this group as religion. Then, when they are already in a group, they will just believe what people in the group say. In other words, they will not believe others believes or spirituality, or they will even not hear others believes or spirituality. Therefore, Spirituality does differ from religion.

3.How do you define “Creativity”?

In my opinion, creativity is something new or fresh. In other words, if someone gives me his or her product that I have never seen in my life, then, I will admit that is creativity. However, being creative is hard. Because most of us are receiving the same education; it is hard to “get out” from the traditional education, and think about something that people don’t know, or never seen. Furthermore, most creativity is from our spirituality because they will influence many aspects of our life.

4.What is the source of creativity?

In last part, I write “being creative is hard. Because most of us are receiving the same education; it is hard to “get out” from the traditional education, and think about something that people don’t know, or never seen.” So, what is the source of creativity? Personally speaking, there are two sources, first of all, it is the ability to combine two stuffs that are hardly relative. For example, people combined engine and bird, then they invented airplane. Secondly, being lazy is another main point of creativity, I really don’t think people invented car just because it is cool or something. I believe that the reason people invented car is that they were too lazy to walk too far. Walking made them tired. Therefore, they had to find another way to move. Then, they invented car.

Deeply Seeing Response

According this article “Deeply Seeing” by Grey, I think that it is very interesting about the main concept of deeply seeing. He discusses about the value of seeing. In my opinion at first, seeing, looking, and watching have the exactly same meaning. However, in his essay, there is a huge difference between looking and seeing. For example, we can look at many things during an hour, but it is very superficial and just can be seem as looking not seeing. Grey pointed out that “seeing occurs when our attention is arrested by a person, object, or scene” (Grey, 71). Then, he used an example that people will see the both ways before crossing the road. Yes, I strongly agree with this point of view, you cannot find anything if you just look or glance at it. Yet, when you see the both ways deeply, you may see there is a car is quickly come, and you can see the danger and avoid the dangerous event through seeing.  In the reading, seeing is also the recognition of meaning as an art by Frederick Franck, “No wonder that once the art of… for they do not see what they look at” (Grey, 73). This quote reveals that the art of seeing is important for everyone and the process in which being an artist encounters any subjects are meaningful and full of love and aesthetic pleasure. After reading this essay, I think looking at something is just a picture appears in our mind, on the other hand, seeing something is when we are thinking about the picture that appeared in our mind.
