In the Moment By: Helen Tonso Mitchell Lira is a tribal member of Warm Springs. He is a first-generation student sophomore at the University of Oregon. He was studying Ichishkiin, which was his Native language introduced by his grandmother. He bikes to school and works daily. Unlike most bike riders, Mitchell wears a helmet that was recommended by his language professor. Mitchell was having a hard time fixing the printer. “It looks like I am going to have to call an engineer,” said Gordon Bettels, an elder and stewardess of the Many Nations Long House. Getting paid or not, He enjoys working at the Many Nations Long House. This is also his favorite spot to study.
