First round of material testing commenced with the goal of simulating the characteristics of the roll of concrete fabric we ordered in the mail. We attempted this by applying Sakrete ready mix cement to 2 substrates, Fiberglass mat and an aluminum window screen.
Considerations included:
Would our wooden frames support the concrete fabrics (with assumed weight of 125 lbs/sqf)?
Would our mixture be able to support its own weight (and eventually the weight of other similar structural units)?
Would the mix readily apply to the substrates of choice?
RESULTS
After several hours of building and assembling the test structure cubes and applying Sakrete mix to our substrates, we were unable to effectively simulate the behavior of concrete fabric.
The Sakrete was too course of a mix to adhere to our substrate fabrics and it did not support its own weight. We gained some valuable experience working with the concrete-like material and our screens/fabrics but we have a long way to go still!
