As a way to highlight the first-generation population within the staff and faculty at the University of Oregon, the First-Generation Student Working Group developed the “I am First-Gen” placard. These placards are given to staff or faculty members who were first-generation college students to put up in their workspace. It’s the working group’s hope that first-generation students will be able to see these and therefore know that the staff or faculty member will be someone they can go to for support and understanding.
