An over lapping theme of the school became extremely evident as I passed over the images of this historic schools past.  As it hit me the contrast became almost comical to think how the athletics department of the University of Oregon has evolved due to the founding of a multi billion dollar company, Nike, and the hundreds of millions of dollars that it has pumped into the school. This influence has produced state of the art facilities, multiple bowl game championships, NFL stars, and more.  The picture below symbolizes that from humble and even meek beginning, a power house can be born.

The team uniforms then were tattered together with an one “O” as the primary design and some did not even match. Unlike the futuristic ones founded by Nike that sport the wings and shimmery silver of the helmets. While the first Oregon football players had only leather caps to protect themselves.  The size difference of the athletes then and the ones now are virtually a night and day comparison. Todays team, is one that is known world wide for its iconic flash and relentless speed. We have become the breeding ground for high performance athletes and of course rainy weather.  That was then and this is now, but our team call shall always remain, “SCO DUCKS”
