> Mentor Stipend

The UO aims to provide training sites a stipend that reflects the value of the ongoing mentorship and expertise of our Cooperating Professionals, and the administrative and collaborative expectations linked to their work to support candidate’s licensure. Below is the structure for which compensation is allocated:

A. UO does not compensate mentors or host teachers in the following field placement scenarios:

  • Active observation practicum
Placements ranging between 3 to 15 hours a week of unregulated hours. The candidate serves as a volunteer in the classroom, shadowing and assisting with tasks to become familiar with the classroom, school, and students.
  • In-service added endorsement
Placements requiring fewer than 60 hours during the term.
  • A Field Study Focused Observation
Placements primarily involving unregulated observation terms, typically 3 to 15 volunteer engagement hours per week. Students may be enrolled for 1 to 3 university credit hours, depending on the program.
  • Clinical Training at a Medical Facility
Placements at a clinical site facility, unless otherwise specified by University.
  • Short Term Placements
Placements lasting 4 weeks or less.

B. The UO provides a stipend to Cooperating Professionals through the training site when the field placement requires licensure evaluation and assessment tasks for student teaching, clinical practicum, or externship, including:

  • Part-Time Placement
Approximately 9 to 20 hours a week of on-site student engagement (may vary by program). In these cases, the Cooperating Professional is expected to

    • Plan and implement instructional activities
    • Collaborate with university supervisor to provide formalized assessments and evaluations,
    • Adhere to licensure expectations.
  • Full-time Placement
Approximately 21 to 40 hours a week of on-site student teaching engagement (may vary by program). The same responsibilities apply as listed above.
  • Multiple Cooperating Professionals
In some cases, a candidate may be placed with two or more Cooperating Professionals. The training site will compensated on a per-student basis, regardless of the number of Cooperating Professionals supporting a student.

    • Payment to training site will not exceed the amount designated for the student’s placement type.
    • Compensation will be based on the candidate’s full- or part-time status.
