> Mentor Stipend

The UO aims to provide training sites a stipend that reflects the value of the ongoing mentorship and expertise of our Cooperating Professionals, and the administrative and collaborative expectations linked to their work to support candidate’s licensure. Below is the structure for which compensation is allocated:

A. UO does not compensate mentors or host teachers in instances where the field placement is:

  • Active observation practicum ranging between 3 to 15 hours a week of unregulated hours. Candidate is a volunteer in the classroom, shadowing and assisting with tasks that help the candidate become familiar with the classroom, school, and students.
  • In-service added endorsement hours of under 60 for the term.
  • A Field Study that is primarily focused on unregulated observation terms: These placements may range approximately 3 to 15 active volunteer engagement hours per week in which a student is enrolled for 0 to 2 University credit hours, this may vary by program.
  • An out-of-state Field Placement, unless otherwise specified by University.
  • At a clinical training site with a medical facility, unless otherwise specified by University.

B. The UO provides a stipend to Cooperating Professionals through the training site in instances where the field placement is student teaching, clinical practicum, or externship, including:

  • Part-time, approximately 9 to 20 hours a week of on-site student teaching engagement, this may vary by program. In such case, the Cooperating Professional is expected to plan and implement instructional activities, collaborate with university supervisor to provide formalized assessments and evaluations, and adhere to Licensure expectations.
  • Full-time, approximately 21 to 40 hours a week of on-site student teaching engagement, this may vary by program. In such case, the Cooperating Professional is expected to plan and implement instructional activities, collaborate with university supervisor to provide formalized assessments and evaluations, and adhere to Licensure expectations.
  • In some cases, a candidate may be placed with two or more Cooperating Professionals. Training site will only be compensated on a per student basis regardless of the number of Cooperating Professionals supporting a student. Payment to training site will not exceed a student’s placement type. Compensation will be based on the candidate’s full- or part-time status.

UO provides stipends to Cooperating Professionals through the district. Stipends are subject to district employee taxes and benefit deductions.
