Annually the COE places 25+ graduate school psychology students in school-based settings with licensed field supervisors in Eugene and Portland campus areas.
District supervisors are important clinical training partners, sharing their knowledge of schools as complex systems. Supervisors mentor practicum clinicians through individualized assessments, consultation cases, data-based decision-making, collaboration, and intervention development and support.
SPSY Field Placement:
- Terms: 10-week Fall, Winter, & Spring (typically September – June)
Candidates are placed in a supervised practicum field experience (approximately 9 hours a week for three 10-week terms, 360 hours total). - District supervisor mentors provide opportunities for school psychology candidates to develop skills across National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Practice Model domains and gradually take on responsibilities with service delivery and case management. Mentors help candidates gain experience with special education evaluation, academic/cognitive and social-emotional/ behavioral consultation casework.
- Candidates are not always under the direct supervision of their field supervisor. There are likely unsupervised contact with students in all practicum and internship placements.
