Site supervisor responsibilities: experienced personnel, either on-site or remote, ensure field study is not be left on their own with students or clients

  1. Provide an orientation to the site that includes training, expectations, policies, procedures & map of worksite.
  2. Help intern(s) establish a regular weekly schedule.
  3. Work with intern to define the role that the intern plays during the term, creating a work plan, and expectations.
  4. Provide mentoring, supervision, and formative feedback on performance.
  5. Meet at least once each week for 20 – 30 minutes with intern(s) to provide information relevant to the field study.

To help FHS students secure their field study site, we work with a wide range of community and district partners to curate FHS specific volunteer intern opportunities. Then during course registration, students are provided with a list of field study hosts to pick from. Students typically make their selection based on site interest, location, hours, and availability. Once students have signed up, we provide hosts and students with contact information. Students are then instructed to send an introductory email and set up a next step conversation.
