FHS Hosts
Hosting Family Human Services (FHS) Field Study Interns
The College of Education partners with local human services agencies to offer a range of field study opportunities that align with the Family & Human Services (FHS) undergraduate curriculum. In their internship, FHS students connect with career professionals working to remove barriers to opportunities and helping provide individuals and families with services to not only succeed but thrive. In turn, FHS students gain experiences, insights, and make tangible career connections.
FHS Field Study Experience details:
- Field Study Hours: Interns average 6 hours a week for a 10-week term. They may return multiple terms.
- Role/Activities: FHS students are eager to jump in, pitch in, help out, and engage directly in supporting services. Assigned tasks should be mutually beneficial and meaningful to the field; giving interns the opportunity to gain and practice new skills, connect with clients and staff. As a field study volunteer, please refrain from regularly assigning childcare or cleaning tasks.
- Site Selection & Scheduling: Students pick from the College of Education’s curated list of intern opportunities based on various factors including, position, location, and availability.
- Introductory Notifications: Hosts will be notified as students sign up. Students will be informed of site contact information and instructed to send an introductory email, initiate scheduling a Next Step Conversation, and complete site on-boarding requirements.
- On-boarding Clearance: Students complete a UO background clearance check and any additional site-specific background checks prior to beginning their field study. It is helpful for the students to complete these prior to the start of the term.
- Recruitment / Hiring: If you are interested in offering your intern an employee position, they can complete their field study hours within work hours.
- Outcome Goal: FHS students gain experiences, insights, and make tangible career connections.
