A day at the Jiu-Jitsu club.
As the president and instructor of the University of Oregon Jiu-Jitsu club, Mark Hammel supervises the team’s warmup. A sense of excitement is in the air, and the team is eager to begin practice.
This is Mark’s first year as president of the club. He enjoys instructing, and always plans what he will teach weeks ahead.
Mark tries not to tap out of the rear naked choke. He is a purple belt and knows the escape move, but he wants to give the less experienced members a chance to practice.
After sparring Mark gives constructive feedback to his opponent about the figure-four armlock.
At the end of practice the men and women of the team celebrate the practice. Since the club just ordered new apparel, Mark proposes that today’s cheer should be “T-shirts!”
