Midterm2 – Amin

The main strength of my project is the idea behind it. The two main ideas are: an infrastructure for server farms in an urban setting and a responsive building envelope that changes based on many variables. My reviewers also thought I had strong ideas and they were presented well. I believe these ideas are strongly developed and extremely appropriate for the eVolo competition which is asking for a vision of the future of high-rise buildings. Based on my observations, eVolo competition and the past winners had minimal focus on structural, solar, and wind analyses and more focus on the idea of how the future will be and what technologies will be available to us in that time. I do think, however, that developing my project in terms of structures, circulations, and clusters are highly essential.

The weakness of my project is the lack of development (and in some cases lack of existence) of the building form as a whole, mid-scale of the building or clusters, structural systems, and circulation systems or the functions of the building. For my ideas to be presented well I need to develop the building in those areas. Without a solid cluster plan, my futuristic building envelope idea will not be communicated well. Developing the cluster plans is also important to show how the working communities form in this server farm. It will also show how will the offices and support spaces will be integrated into the server rooms. After developing a solid cluster plan and looking at a smaller scale, it will be easier to develop the structural systems.

Finally, I feel it’s necessary to convey my ideas through beautifully written text and most importantly with clear and straightforward diagrams and graphics. At this mid-term, my imagery didn’t really communicate what the building is.
