Learning Goals Reflection

1) I will expand my knowledge of media forms and management practices through readings, discussion and assignments.

I have definitely become more aware of the vast range of media forms and management practices, so much so, I don’t think I can keep up. If anything, this class has shown how important media management has become today.

2) I will become more familiar with how to use transmedia or interactive media in my career and research.

While I certainly became more familiar with these media forms this term, this was from a combination of classes. This class mostly gave me a theoretical understanding of the impacts of interactive media and the dialogue surrounding engagement with media. I think the lexicon we developed in the class will help assist me in talking about my research.

3) I will take advantage of class visits by broadening my understanding of arts management professions and asking questions.

I really enjoyed all of the class visits and found them very helpful for understanding media management in the professional world. The wide spectrum of presenters definitely helped broaden my knowledge of arts management and I think I asked questions when necessary. I would like to follow up with some of the presenters to ask more specific questions.

4) I will do my best to be prepared for class and develop thoughtful responses for assignments.

I did my best to keep up with the readings and present thoughtful arguments for my essays. I think I formed a better understanding of media management by the end of the term and thus was better able to articulate my response for the final essay.

5) And as always, I will participate in discussions but not dominate the conversation. Listen more!

I actually did an experiment partway through the term where I wrote down all my thoughts instead of saying them aloud. This resulted in me having better notes from discussion, but also lessening my engagement. I did find that most of my thoughts were eventually said by others, but there are some things that can provide a unique perspective based on my experiences. I tried to keep this lesson in mind the rest of the term, although I don’t know if always succeeded.
