Final for Info Design: Graphic Standards

Assignment Description: The Graphic Standards represents a culmination of students’ logo design, collateral pieces and other presentation specification around their organizations brand.

I created my Graphic Standards for my imaginary organization Grapes of Craft. Click link to see a PDF of the standards.

Graphic Standards

Reflection: After creating my Graphic standards, I realize how important it is to set margins when designing your collateral. I didn’t really pay attention to margins when I made my collateral, so I had to go back and fix everything. However, it was still difficult to make everything fit neatly to clear measurements retroactively. This is a good lesson for the next time I design something: always think about measurements from the beginning. I also redid my Display Ad to match my Graphic Standards. I enjoyed writing the requirements for the standards because it made me focus on aspects I had forgotten about like bleeds or type of paper. In the end, I am proud to have this final product of my design work this quarter.

Collateral Drafts

Assignment Description: Students will apply their logo in common collateral materials that will be included in their Graphic Standards assignment. Along with lecture, handouts and resource links describing and modeling organization graphic standards are provided. Past cohort examples are made available for reference to clarify both collateral material development, specifications and production, as well as specific criteria for producing the graphic standards assignment.

Here are my collateral drafts for my Cultural Administration project Grapes of Craft. Click on PDF links below to see each design individually.

business card

Reflection: I got the idea to have the red arc from sketching templates of the business card and looking at the Google images of the business collateral design. I felt that I need more color somewhere and a way to divide the plain. The difficult part was figuring out where to place the red arc in each of the types of collateral. My original idea was to put the logo in the red for the envelope and letterhead, and change the circle in the wine glass to white, but I quickly realized that did not look right. So, I had to play with placement and I think I like how they turned out. I tried to balance the white and red and minimize the amount of red used as to save money on color ink. The hardest part was actually placing them all together on one sheet. I used Photoshop to add drop shadows and strokes for this.

Display Ad

Assignment Description: Students will create a display ad using their brand to promote an event, activity, services, or recognition of their organization. Students are introduced to common advertising campaigns, venues, and specifications.

Here is my Display Ad for my Cultural Administration project Grapes of Craft.

Note: this is my old Display Ad. I have since re-done it for my Graphic Standards.

Display Ad

Reflection: This is the project I am least proud of. Hence, why I redid it. I had a hard time thinking of a design for this ad. In the end, I made a fairly simple ad. I made 3 planes and included the proper information, making the event and date the main focus. I had to edit the image of the wine glass in Photoshop so only the red color was visible. The hardest part was actually coming up with a short description of the event, but I think if I saw this ad, I’d go to the event. I actually spelled everyday wrong, which has been fixed for the new ad. Shows how important it is to have editors.

Cultural Admin: Grapes of Craft – Memorandum of Agreement

Memorandum of Agreement

Assignment Description:

Each team will submit a Memorandum of Agreement detailing your expectations for one another. These form the criteria against which you will assess you team’s strengths and weaknesses as the term progresses.

GRAPES OF CRAFT: MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

BETWEEN: Brant Handifl, Yi Liang, Edward Parker and Eveyln Thorne

OCTOBER 1, 2012

Terms of Agreement

Background

The group members associated with this project are graduate students in the University of Oregon Arts and Administration Program.  The general focus of this group is to act as an organization that will plan and develop an arts-based street fair.  Members have determined that the street fair will have a primary focus on glass, as an artistic medium.  The street fair will serve as a platform for engaging participants through community-arts and cultural tourism.

Membership

Meeting Attendance

Members are expected to meet on a regular basis.  If a member will not be able to attend a meeting for any reason, advance notice must be provided to the group so that the group can either reschedule the meeting or continue at the designated time.

Contribution and Workload

Each member of this group is expected to assume an equal share of the workload.  Workload will be determined by the group and will be based on each group member’s strengths, degree of experience, and expectations for academic/professional development.  In situations where one member has a larger amount of workload than another, the group will need to partition the workload so that all members assume an equal share.

Leadership

This group will not have a singular leader.  Leadership will be shared by the group based on each member’s strengths and weaknesses, as related to the variance of objectives and challenges that will be encountered throughout the development process.

Quality of Work

Each member is expected to work at a level comparable to a graduate student and/or professional.  Documents should be formatted to meet academic and/or professional standards.  Work should also be submitted to the group to review on or before a set deadline.

Teamwork and Cooperation

Each member agrees to participate fully and openly in this group.  In times where there is a dispute, the group will vote on how to proceed and will continue based on the majority.  It is expected that all group members cooperate, communicate and coordinate with each other in a respectful and professional manner.

Communication

Group communications will be administered in-person, by email, or via TeamLab project management software.  All group members shall be copied to emails associated with this project as a courtesy, regardless of whether or not every group member is actively engaged with the task or question at hand.

Scope

Nothing in this Agreement will preclude the members of this group from carrying out their respective academic duties and responsibilities.

Completion

This agreement and its provisions will terminate on December 7, 2012.
