Research Methods

Winter 2013

AAD 630 Research Methods

Instructor: Dr. Ann M. Galligan

Through readings, lectures and activities, this course introduces a range of research methods useful to the field of arts administration. In this course, students will explore the language, process, and techniques of research while practicing skills including critical thinking, academic writing, sourcing and reviewing literature, key data collecting techniques, identifying ethical concerns, and drafting a research concept proposal. Through this process, we will also explore the broader purposes of applied and scholarly cultural research.

This being an applied course, students will explore their research interests and methodological needs throughout.  As the major assignment, students will develop (and present) a preliminary proposal framework for their terminal research project that emphasizes methods.  Students will revise and refine the preliminary proposal developed in this course and in the AAD 631 Research Design course (Fall 2013).
