Eugene, Ore. – The warm sun shines bright on Tuesday, April 19th for Transportation Day, an Earth Week celebration encouraging all to ditch your gas-guzzler and cruise around town by foot, or like many around campus, by bike.

Over 35 people visited the Bike Program tent to get some help from some of the crew like Vé Gulbrandsen, 23, who has been working with the program for about a month. “For the future, for making more sustainable societies, increasing bike transportation is crucial,” they said. Gulbrandsen has been bicycle touring for 5 years and it makes them happy to live in a town that has the infrastructure to support the growing bike culture.

With over 200 miles of shared-use, on-street, and signed bikeways, there are many opportunities to explore the city and take in the beautiful spring scenery by bike.

If you haven’t taken your bike out for a spin in a while and missed the free tune-ups on Tuesday, then swing by the Outdoor Program Barn located near Matt Court between 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a daily free D.I.Y. workshop where people like Gulbrandsen are ready to help you find and use the tools you need to fix up your eco-friendly vehicle.
