People living in the residence hall will inevitably get bored of housing food. I am one of them. To combat this boredom I tried making homemade applesauce using only the resources from the dorm dining. I based my recipe off of Real Simple’s 23 Cooking Uses for Your Microwave for the applesauce.

Ingredients:

– 2 Fuji apples

– Teaspoon of sugar

– Pinch of cinnamon

– 1 plastic knife

– 3 paper boats (preferable reused from other things to go along with that environmental vibe)

– Water

Peel, chop, and dice 2 Fuji apples in 1 of the paper boats. Try not to cry that you only have a plastic knife and that it took more time than it probably should have.

Take another paper boat and combine the apples with enough water to fill halfway up to the diced apples. Then stir in the sugar and cinnamon that you took from the Common Grounds bar in a little condiment up. Feel a little bit guilty about that but then remember how much money you’re paying to tuition and take even more sugar. Cover and microwave on high until the apples are tender, in 2-3 minute increments. Mash with a fork (but that doesn’t really work so you’re gonna take the bottom end of a clean cup you found and try to mash it some more).

Then try to find a fancy aesthetically pleasing plate to photograph your final product with and then realize there’s only semi-fancy paper plates at the multicultural center that you can take photos with. Optional: garnish with granola and cranberries. Best served warm and forced shared with friends so that can be in awe of your achievements.
