Background

The Elliot State Forest consists of 92,000 acres of forest located Northeast of the Coos bay. 82,000 of the acres are used to generate profit for the Common School Fund which is to help support public schools throughout Oregon. In 1990 the Northern Spotted Owl, who’s home is in the forest, was put on the endangered species list which caused the forest’s logging to plummet and all of its profit. This completely defeated the purpose of the forest’s logging and lead to a $221 million proposal to a timber company. The proposal has been in debate for several years now and are projected to make a decision by May of 2017.

  1. There are a few important bits of information in the introduction, but it is definitely lacking substance. I would also like to see a map of the region for context.
