University of Oregon Campus Safety

The University of Oregon campus is made to be a safe place and a home to thousands of students. But things happen, situations occur that were unexpected or you are unprepared for. The university provides students with resources they may need to further protect themselves and those around them. I focused on two primary resources I felt were very beneficial to our campus, the first being Safe Ride. Safe Ride’s mission is to provide students and faculty with a safe and accessible alternative to traveling alone at night. Whether you feel you are in danger of sexual assault or you don’t feel safe walking home from class alone, everyone is encouraged to ride. My other focus was self-defense. The university offers multiple courses for not only women, but students of all genders. The primary focus of self-defense is not only physical techniques, but verbal techniques as well. Their goal is to teach you about self worth and the importance of standing up for yourself.
