Northwest Dog Project’s Ashley Hansen is an integral part of rescue’s success. As a staff member she feeds, walks and socializes the dogs daily. She builds relationships with them during their time at the rescue so they are able to socialize properly with other dogs and humans when they are adopted.
Northwest Dog Project is a non-profit dog rescue that was founded in August of 2014. Their mission is to rescue and re-home abused and neglected dogs in hopes to educate the public on proper dog ownership, as well as regaining the dog’s trust in humans.
Ashley Hansen has worked for Northwest Dog Project since 2016. During her shifts she walks, feeds and socializes every dog. She is paying some special attention to Alfalfa, one of four puppies in a Dachshund litter.
One of Hansen’s duties is to make sure each dog gets enough exercise. Hank the pitbull gets his exercise through daily walks on the country roads surrounding the rescue, and is one of Hansen’s favorite dogs to walk.
Dinner time is an important time at the rescue as every dog has different dietary needs. Hansen measures out food portions based on the dogs weight and age, as well as mixing medication in with food for dogs who require it.
Froggy is a puppy in the litter of Dachshunds who has taken a particular liking to Hansen. He is notably shy and enjoys one-on-one attention rather than being apart of a large group of dogs with too much energy. Hansen is happy to take Froggy aside and give him the attention that makes him feel comfortable and safe.
