2 major issues in Romania

Diversity issues in Romania.

Romania is not a diverse country. 89% of Romania is Romanians. The minorities are Hungarians, Roma people, Bulgarians, and Azerbaijanis. I think Romania is not a diverse country because of its large population that is mainly made up of Romanians. Diversity is a great thing to have in any country because it makes a country look even more beautiful. There are more types of people in the world with different skin colors, languages, and backgrounds. Different ideas, perspectives, and beliefs makes the world a lot more interesting.

Human rights issues

The government in Romania doesn’t work a lot towards human issues. However, there have been concerns regarding allegations of police brutality, mistreatment of the Romani minority, government corruption, poor prison conditions. For example, the police beat up a 19-year-old man because they thought that he looked suspicious. They also beat up another man who was drunk in public. Both men suffered serious injuries during the beatings. There were also reports that the police detained and tortured people who they suspected of being members of the Gypsy minority. In 2012, the United Nations Human Rights Council opened an investigation into human rights abuses in the Romanian prisons. Although the report has not yet been released, it said that prisoners had been subjected to “gross violations of their rights.” The government has responded by trying to cover-up the allegations of abuse by releasing some prisoners.
