In Ukraine, there are human rights but there still remains discrimination against certain groups. In Ukraine men and women under the law are equal however there are many cases of domestic abuse towards women that go dismissed. A country like Ukraine dealing with ethnocentrism would look at a country like Saudi Arabia and think that their treatment of women is completely radical and not okay simply based on Saudi Arabia’s religion against women. Farish Noor makes the point that human rights and liberties should exist and do exist in a multicultural world. Countries like Ukraine would prove Farish Noor’s point that not only Western countries know about human rights. Noor mentions how Gandhi is a good example of non-western human rights as he was an example of non-violent resistance against the brutality of the Indian government. Eurocentrism is the idea that Europe is the main engine for the ideas around the world and Noor would disagree with this simply based on people like Ghandi around the world. Ethnocentrism is in my words a biased opinion to other cultures based on one’s own culture. Ukraine in the past suffered from the idea that women and minorities were less than white-men however they have moved past this since. Ukraine now creates all people equal however there still are instances that hate groups form based on the old ethnocentric views. Another ethnocentric view Ukraine has is that they are a

separate and different culture from Russia. This is what has sparked some conflict between Russia and Ukraine as Russia’s ethnocentric views state that Russia and Ukraine are the same and Ukraine is still and should be a part of Russia because they are the same people. The differing ethnocentric views created much conflict and drew Vladimir Putin to attack Ukraine in hopes of making it part of Russia.
