Michael C. Dreiling is a Professor of Sociology specializing in political and environmental sociology at the University of Oregon. He is author of two books (most recently Agents of Neoliberal Globalization), numerous articles, and is presently working on a third book comparing the political power of energy industries in the US, Japan, and Germany. Michael is also a filmmaker. He is producer and co-director of the award-winning feature documentary on Costa Rica’s happy, healthy and demilitarized social democratic society – A Bold Peace, available at Bullfrog Films. As a first-generation college graduate, Dreiling appreciates public schools and the nurturing role of academic freedom to democracy and human progress (link to his curriculum vitae here). Michael served 3 terms as the inaugural President for the faculty union at the University of Oregon, United Academics at the University of Oregon and recently began a second term as President of the Oregon state conference of the American Association of University Professors. Dreiling and his family enjoy gardening and canning salsas, known for such flavorful and spicy concoctions as Habanero 100, Green Lava, Medium Creeper, and Almost Mild for the kids.
