Technology

The essay, ‘Computer Graphics: Effects of Origins” by Jones, “Recent theoretical work in cognitive science and computer science, as well as that in contemporary theory in the arts, humanities and social sciences, provides theoretical rationales for cultural changes.” As technologies have been developed, people receive various advantages in their lives. All transactions can be made electronically and technological forms of works are all around people. In terms of art, computer graphics or some forms for arts by technologies also deliver some messages or impressions to people. By seeing them, people can be inspired and surprised. However, I do not like the computer based arts. I think a perfect work limits a person’s reaction. Hand-made drawings evoke aesthetic reactions as well as some critics. By the criticisms, the art can be developed more. However, perfect art forms made by technologies would prevent arts from being developing further. Some mistakes or natural forms on arts give more insights. Moreover, everyone can use computer skills such as photo-shop or drawing pictures so that technologies limit the scarcity of art works. In the points, I just wonder do you get impressed by technological arts as much as previous art? Have you thought that the art will lose its unique features while technologies are developing?

I liked how you discussed the development and the effects of technologies in this topic. As the innovations, such as video, computers, internet came out and being developed vastly, many people start to question are these technologies good or bad, however, this topic has limited on just games. I would say, just like any other things in our life, it could be good and bad, all depends on how we use it. I agree how you feel digital art, I won’t prefer that than hand drawing neither. however, when we apply the art works in certain places, digital art may be preferred. I think the reason people talked about these topics is that they miss the slow lifestyle and the days that we don’t have this much technologies. Yes, there won’t be big issues if we use what we have created, such as computer and computer games, however, if we feel fear and the loneliness and we miss the time that we are playing just games with people. then we should stop and take a break and then do something that could really help with our lives. I think thats enough concerns for us, for now.

    Hi, dongjoon:
I am interesting about your question: “Have you thought that the art will lose its unique features while technologies are developing?” I don’t think so. As Lessig claim in the TED talk “(new technology) These tools of creativity have become tools of speech. It is literacy for this generation.” Technology is the new way for people to convey their idea. We can stop the main trend of the technology and we also already get used to it. We use the technology to create many new art. I highly recommend you to search and know the person call John Maeda. He is a designer who uses the technology to create his art. Maeda said: “I would say that if it wasn’t for the computer, my art wouldn’t be known because my art is so linked to it.” He also has a speech to well explain how the art link to the technology. His speech can give the answer for you. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your points that technologies create fine art forms and they are available in our society. I know there are fantastic arts created by technologies. However, hand made art paintings are unique because talented artists put efforts on making colors or drawing. They do not make mistakes during the process of creating arts, but technologies are exact tools to draw or color on. Technological arts can be erased and fix the paintings using computer skills. Although the final works impress audiences, I think it will be less impact than original art forms. Computer based works does not have a styles since everyone use the same skills. On the other hand, hand-made art forms have different styles depending on artists. Therefore, I think the original art forms would be more fantastic.
