The Art of Mapping….

In the end of our second module for our class, we discussed the idea of mapping and what It meant to many different professionals. We had the great privilege of hearing from distinct professor’s and professional’s over the idea of Mapping. An interesting way if desiring their own ideas and contribution of what really goes in un the behind the scenes. Intriguing to see and understand what they have contributed to.

Learning what specific contributions must be made and with very careful need they have to be made are such a unique way of understanding the hard work and dedication to be able to attribute to historical format of ones culture. It’s not as easy as it sounds, it takes a majority of work with the idea of “Care” to be able to execute with out any flaws. Able to hear what some of our guest speakers have been able to achieve in one theme for lack of words, we see that each one of them has contributed to the “characters” and “brains” of one taking a imaging and being able to scan it without any hiccups or damage to the original scan. It not just like taking a piece of paper and scanning it on a printer: more complex of an idea. You have to take into account that the art you are touching is worth a couple thousand dollars If not millions, All this responsibility is under their hands as professor Massimo Riva, from Brown University was stating a painting called “Garibaldi’s Panorama” took many months to scan due to the fact of being such an expensive painting but also to not create any harm to it. The saying “time is money” is a clear understatement here because all these months of being able to scan this famous panorama took a substantially amount of time but also money.

This type of work that some of our most professionals have done is in order to make something that is not easily accessible to us, very much accesible and that is the future of out world. Not to underestimate that all text can be captured and be put onto the inter-web but makes it much more accessible for us that don’t have those resources to have an opportunity to take a look at what has been done in the early days. Also to give an insight all this is to organize, understand, look at, capture a great moment in time where we need to be preserving not damaging these amazing manuscripts, paintings etc.
