Star of the LGBTQ
So for this week we have opened up into a new paradigm of learning about stars and their personas from their acting life and their personal life and we take on to the idea of homosexual stars. This week we started talking about the actor known as Rock Hudson and how he was a very contradictory actor because he play the role of The American sexual figure in the 1950s. During this time Rock Hudson was a clean cut, tall, dark haired, handsome man in that I’m in this actually fit the description of what a manly man would look like during these times. but as Rock Hudson got more in depth into his career nobody really knew that he was a gay star because he kept it under wraps. which leads to the end of his career around the time that he was diagnosed with aids, when Hudson was diagnosed with aids that’s when it was confirmed that he was a homosexual man. This led many of his fans and many people who have watched his films to believe that Hudson was a liar because he was portraying to be something that he wasn’t and throughout that time many of his movies were all about him portraying a heterosexual male during these times. But for his career I feel that it was a very successful one not only because he was able to live out his life the way that he wanted but he was also able to live on an have a very good career in what he did and what he loved. An after the news came out that he had aids it changed the image of what gay stars look like or change how they were thought of, because with the revelation of him becoming gay it turned I towards the safety concerns for him in this community because aids was prominent in the gay community.
But you can say that for the same people nowadays because you can’t put a label on the look of who is gay and who is not gay for example, the actress Tessa Thompson, she is seen in multiple movies such as the Creed series, and The Marvel hit Thor: Ragnarök. Or in this movie she plays a strong female character that provides support to both protagonist, in the Creed series she is seen as the fiancĂ© of Adonis Creed and bares his children. Which is completely different from her in life persona because in real life she came out as a part of the LGBTQ community.
