Watch "Formation," Beyoncé's New #BlackLivesMatter-inspired music ... Beyonce’s Cultural Impact

So for this week’s blog post we have come across the world phenomenon star of Beyoncé. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter Was a former member of Destiny’s Child, and once she broke off from Destiny’s Child she began her solo career as Beyoncé as we all know. Over the course of watching her grow through the interviews and through her movie “Lemonade”, That we’ve been assigned over this week you can see that she is more than just a star. She is a woman who defines herself as a feminist and that she is more influenced by her cultural background and her upbringing as a star. This is seen throughout the movie “Lemonade” Based on the storytelling aspect of her marriage with Jay-Z and also how she reflects on their marriage with her parents marriage. not only does she believe that she can make a difference but as a cultural icon she can make a difference for those who do not have a voice in this world. This is shown in the “Beyoncé Elle magazine cover story”, she’s asked multiple questions about what does her videos for certain songs mean and the one that stood out to me the most was her being asked about the meaning of the video for “formation”. After her video came out for the song many believed that she was against law enforcement but after giving her side of what she meant by the imagery in her music video she really meant that she was against the injustice and cultural biased of police brutality in what was going on in the American society during this time. But also going back to the idea of her proclaiming to be a feminist she was looked to use the words of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who held a TED Talk about herself being a feminist. She used this as the idea behind showing that everyone can be a feminist in the same article she says that you would want your daughter to make the same amount of money as your son. so in my own opinion as we look over Beyoncé as a whole she is a cultural icon because she’s not only just doing things that makes her fans happy but she is trying to further the culture in change in justice is with the platform that she has. Before watching these documents and reading her interviews and watching her movie personally I felt as if Beyoncé is overhyped, I always gave her the credit that she was a great artist in that her songs are good but just a lot of the population that listens to Beyoncé over hypes her which makes it seem that she is a more powerful  figure  or a Supreme being innocent which is why my ideals are shaped in a way that they were about Beyoncé before now under saying as she has a more background into trying to change what it is in just in her eyes to the world I can give her more credit because she’s using her platform in a good way.
