Professional Communication

The ability to communicate in a professional manner is one of the most important aspects of the professional world; in BA 352, I further developed my skills at writing in a business style within a variety of forms. I worked on memos, cover letters, resumes, presentations, and a proposal.

The presentation was fairly effective at communicating the main issue we found to be pressing in the Lundquist College of Business. The group felt pretty confident that we chose the best solution for our issue, and we were effective at communicating this while appealing to an audience composed of faculty members. My blog post about the presentation during the middle of the term, which can be found here, made some observations on some aspects the team was lacking from the presentation. At the end of the term, I couldn’t think of anything missing from the presentation; it was very comprehensive in the context of the issue and the solution.

Before BA 352, my resume was somewhat lackluster. It was primarily focused on certain tasks I had to perform and only included a couple of my experiences. After learning about what  constitutes good bullet points under experiences, I made my best resume yet. Getting help also helped me to develop my ability to communicate on a professional level, and I accomplished this with both my final resume and my cover letter. I was told that with my resume and cover letter, I would more than likely be asked to come in for an interview. My Resume and cover letter are available on this page.

Finally, I achieved a higher level of professional communication in memos. I effectively identified an issue within the Lundquist College of Business, discussed how current solutions were ineffective, and proposed three potential pathways. The first memo did well, earning a 32 out of 40; I learned what I needed to improve upon to further my development in professional writing. The second memo did well; I worked hard to research and effectively communicate the issue. I earned a 36 out of 40 on my second memo, which can be found Business Memo.
